Over the years Dale (“Piedmont Slim”) Hayman has had the privilege and pleasure of playing out with so many great musicans and bands. Being a member of the Unruly Blues Band, continues this fine tradition. In Piedmont’s own words-
“I think my affinity for the 'blues' was drawn from my childhood years in the deep South- working 12 hour shifts in a DDT factory (Eagle Eradication Team… It was a great job 'till what’s-her-name wrote that book.) After work, me and the guys would hit the local blues bars scene. I watched and absorbed the great blues players, along with countless packs of Lucky Strikes and pitchers of PBR. I do recall an especially long night with Muddy, Little Walter, James Cotton, and Junior Wells (I think Paul Butterfield was also there but you know how it is... things get a little hazy over the years.) While playing my usual hot cowbell I fell off the stage, ending up with my head inside a '59 Fender Bassman amp. Thank God for 'tweed'… it saved me from a head-on with those four monster Jensens. Anyway, my buddies were not sure if I was still breathing so they duct-taped a harp to my mouth to keep track. As long as I made noise they knew I was OK!
“Well, yeah, you guessed it, I'm still alive and breathing harp. And the future is history in the making. Wait a second here... History in the making? That is a really deep statement. Has somebody said that already or do I get credit for it? I do continue to amuse myself on a regular basis (grin).
“In my spare time I run a landscape business, teach blues harp, and try to play guitar. I have a wonderful family: my wife Jean of many years who always has supported my musical endeavor's in every way, and two fine children, Evie and Dillon, they make parenting about as easy and rewarding as I think it gets.
